21st Aug, 8 kakis consisting of Chang, Kelvin, Alan, Lawrence, Joe, Peter, Ron and Andrew aka (Andrew MJ), set off across the Causeway at about 0330hrs in 2 cars and meeting another kaki Clarence (aka Lokh Jiak) at Mersing's drinks and pee break point, before the final leg to Rompin.
As usual the 'going' leg requires some stock of ice, tidbits and anything and everything for this 2 day trip, therefore, since a camel is not available in this part of the world, we have to substitute them with something else to carry the 'extras' like ice...
Weather does not look good at all, with drizzle and heavy sky , but nevertheless we set off to a good 2 day trip.
First stop, baiting point. It is indeed quite busy there, as there are no less than 10 boats gathering baits...
........before moving off, leaving the weather behind on mainland....
Within the first couple of spots, we landed quite a no. of small reef fishes, and released most undersized infants. ;D
Beautiful pair.....
Finally, the first ratchet that went like hell .......it was Chang's take, ......an approx. 9.5kg Mackie!
Notice the hook that is sticking precariously into nothing more than the skin? ..................It's fate, if it is his,.....it will be his!
What's the other good stuff that is in season over at Rompin now?
....it's Squids! More than 10kilos of them ,...and many of us are not seriously hunting for them actually! ;D
Credits to our Squiddy champion Kelvin, where most of the arrowheads seems to be attracted to him....
Not forgetting Alan and his biggie...
Night fell and we were visited by a Cobies couple,...which came and decided to 'stay' over for dinner................(ours, of course!)
Andrew with his approx. 11.4kilo'er and Alan's Approx. 7.5Kilo'er
Of course, we have our IGFA Official checking weight on the electronic scale..(sorry, this is the local's International Goondu Fishing Association , it has nothing to do with the world reknowned USA's Sports Fisher's.)
Clean up begins....
There were nothing much more in the night except for the squids and 6 other mother-in-laws (aka Barracuda)
At Day break, we went for 'Sailing'....
First hit by Lokh Jiak.....Sailfish #1
Followed very shortly by Andrew, in a double!!! Sailfish #2
Since Lokh Jiak is known for his long distance relationship , Andrew's sail came in first...
....while Lokh Jiak is still 'persuading' his bride ...
...then it finally came aboard...
Next in line is Chang's,....Sailfish #3
In between we had missed afew hits, and Sibu Marlin (aka Todak) that came to disturb...then finally, Peter and Joe's partnership.....Sailfish #4
NOTE: There is this piece of good news to all Anglers fishing in Rompin, Andrew had just unconditionally donated to Rompin's Anglers' Lucky Draw, a set of rod and reel consisting of a Stella 4000 and a Jigging Master,....good luck to the lucky angler who gets it...........
...............and better be FAST the sea is reacting to it!!!!
After this, this is it....we finished off the day and headed back to Rompin..
Cleaned and sort out the catch.... ;D
And a Rompin's Trip is never complete without a Seafood dinner.
...and, oh, yes! The sotong DO still have the head attached to the body! ;D
Though the trip is below expectation and below par with other day trippers, nevertheless, it is just one of THOSE days! Special appreciation to this group of fantastic and fun kakis, and especially Andrew who had selflessly helped to arranged the trip!
